Press Conference for MAZI Foundation Maria’s and Andrea’s Zorba for eating disorders and obesity

The press conference of MAZI foundation for eating disorders and obesity was held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Hilton hotel in Nicosia under the auspices of honest Minister of Health as well as the Cyprus Dietetic and Nutrition Association. Mrs. Georgia Della, Marketing Manager of A. Zorbas and Sons Public Ltd, presented the conference.

For the foundation spoke the Chairman of A. Zorbas and Sons Public Ltd, who after announcing the creation of the Institution focused particularly on the message of mutualism and humanity, that constitutes the frame in which his family operates. Mr. C. Zorbas stated that the foundation will stand by each family providing them with all the right information for the prevention of eating disorders and obesity.

The reward of Mr. Andrea and Mrs. Maria Zorba by their children Costas, Tasos, Demetris and Evanthia, followed, who thanked them for the opportunity that they gave them to continue their work. In order to honour them, the four brothers and sister named the Institution after their parents.

In his greetings, Mr. Christos Patsalides, Minister of Health, congratulated the family and Zorbas’ company for the initiative of the creation of MAZI foundation stressing its value for the Cypriot population and he confirmed that the ministry of Health will be in close collaboration with the Institution.

Afterwards, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ‘Mazi’ Foundation, officially announced the operation of the institution which aspires to play a catalytic role in matters of eating disorders and obesity in Cyprus. Mr. Papadopoulos stated that the aim of the foundation is to inform, educate and train the public for eating disorders and obesity as well as to undertake scientific and research projects concerning the citizens’ health.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of ‘Mazi’ Foundation, thanked Zorbas’ Company for the financial as well as administrative support to the institution, by including it under the umbrella of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Since Monday 10th of May 2010, the online address of the institution, www.mazi.org.cy, is officially available where all have the opportunity to be informed about issues regarding eating disorders and obesity.

The Vice-president of the Council of the Institution, Mrs. Eleni Andreou, presented in detail the issues of eating dissorders and obesity from a scientific point of view.

In her greeting, the Vice-president of Parliamentary Committee of Health, Mrs. Stella Kyriakidoy, stressed the importance of the objectives of ‘Mazi’ Institution congratulating all those who contributed to its realization and she wished them every success from the heart.

During the event, a student of the Graphic Design department of the University of Nicosia, Miss Elfridi Zea, was rewarded with 500 Euros for winning first prize in the competition ‘Body Image’ that was carried out in a collaboration of the University of Nicosia and Mazi foundation.
